A new 5.8 Megawatt Gearbox was designed and manufactured by Adlam Engineering. This gearbox was destined for a Copper Mine on the DRC / Zambia border where it will be utilized on a Ball Mill.

The Gearbox is a Parallel Shaft Gearbox with two Helical Gear reductions giving an overall ratio of 7,263. The Gearbox has a dry weight of about 15 metric tons and is 2.5m long, 1.05m wide and 1.7m high. Some features of the Gearbox includes automatic lubricators which automatically lubricates the labyrinth seals on the input and output shafts. Included as well, is a digital display box to indicate the bearings temperatures. the PT100 thermo couple mounted above the bearings sends a signal to the PID controller, which then gives a temperature reading.
